Having trouble importing your contacts? Did you receive an error while importing?
Most problems occur when importing an Excel file. Usually, saving your document as a .CSV file will fix any issues. To do so, open your Excel spreadsheet and go to FILE>SAVE AS and then select .CSV or Comma Delimited format.
If you still experience problems after converting to a .CSV file, here are some of the most common scenarios:
Strange Symbols and Characters &%*$#@
If your spreadsheet isn't formatted correctly, after you import it you may see a lot of strange-looking symbols instead of your contacts. If this happens, check your spreadsheet for the following:
- Make sure there is only one "Sheet" in the Excel document
- Delete any additional worksheets so you only have one list of contacts in your spreadsheet. Below is an example of multiple sheets in an Excel document.
- Make sure the header is on Row #1 and there is no text above the header (your header is the row with labels for First Name, Last Name, Company, etc).
After importing your contacts, you will receive a confirmation that shows the number of contacts successfully imported and any errors that may have occurred. Here's what some of the error messages mean:
Contacts Contained Duplicate Email Addresses
If any contacts already exist in your BuzzBuilder database, it will not import them again. This prevents duplicate contacts in your account.
Contacts Are Suppressed
If any contacts have been added to the Email Suppression List and are therefore blocked from getting emails, BuzzBuilder will not allow you to import them into a campaign.
Contacts Contained Bad Data
Click on the Learn More link next to this section for more details. The most common error is Bad Email Address, which means the contact was either missing an email address or had an incorrectly-formatted email address. For example, the email may be missing the @ symbol or ".com" at the end.
